Summer on a budget

The summer after Emil and I graduated from high school we took a random day trip down to San Luis Obispo, only 3 hours away from our hometown just so we can go to the beach. Oh the days when you were young and free of responsibility! Now with Emil's crazy work and school schedule, it's unlikely we'll be having many trips this summer. Our budget plays an even greater part in what we can and can't do too. It can definitely be a challenge but at the same time can empower you to get a little creative. There are plenty of fun and affordable things to do that are within local reach.

Here are some ideas how to stay within budget while having fun. I hope we can get around to some of these too!
1. Hiking
Many trails are free so take advantage of being outside in nature while getting some exercise in.
Places to check out: Marin Headlands, Lands End, Golden Gate Promenade (Bay Trail)
2. Bike Rides
Ride your bike to the park or local shops. You'll be surprise what you see on the way.
3. Farmers' Market
Fresh produce and free music, what's not to love?
Places to check out: Chef's Market, Jack London Square Farmers' Market
4. Movies at the drive in
Super convenient if you have a baby! And cheaper than an actual movie theater.
5. Craft Fairs and Flea Markets
Great way to find one-of-a-kind gems while supporting local artisans and business owners.
Places to check out: Renegade Craft Fair, Treasure Island Flea, Alameda Point Antiques Faire
6. Board Games and Brewskis (as Emil likes to call it)
Potluck with friends and enjoy a night of board games, endless laughter, and beer (or other beverages of your choice).
Recommended games: Settlers of Catan, Telestrations, Guesstures.
7. Give back
If you've ever wanted to get involved within your community now is the time. Join a ministry at your church, serve at a food bank, or even help clean up the local beach.

What's your summer looking like?
